Empowering Health Through Community and Movement
The Medicare Foundation is a registered Charity organisation based and operating mainly in England and Wales United Kingdom under the registration number 1215827. We collaborate with local charitable organizations worldwide to support deprived communities by educating, raising awareness, and empowering individuals. Dedicated to promoting health and well-being, we focus particularly on increasing awareness about sickle cell disease and the importance of blood donation, often driving our campaigns through sports and movement. Founded by Naana Hagan-Cherry, a former British Army nurse, and supported by her team, the Medicare Foundation seeks to equip individuals and communities with the tools and resources they need to lead healthier lives.

Our Vision
Our vision is to save lives across communities by creating awareness about sickle cell disease and blood donations, providing education on the importance of health checks, exercise, and organ donations, and promoting healthy living and well-being.
Our Strategic Objectives
- To promote and protect the health and well-being of individuals from the Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, primarily in greater Manchester and Leeds and individuals in Ghana who are affected by sickle cell disease who are in need or require regular blood transfusions, for the public benefit by;
- providing a support network for sickle cell patients, their carers, and families; raising awareness about sickle cell disease and the importance of blood donation within the community particularly from the BAME community;
- educating the public on the benefits of regular exercise, routine health checks, and overall well-being;
- delivering educational programs and awareness campaigns through online events, in-person sessions, sports activities, park and community walks, and other outreach initiatives.
- To promote for the benefit of the inhabitants of Greater Manchester and Leeds and the surrounding area the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship or social and economic circumstances or for the public at large in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving the condition of life of the said inhabitants.
- To advance in life and help children and young people through:
- The provision of recreational and leisure time activities provided in the interest of social welfare, designed to improve their conditions of life;
- Providing support and activities which develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals.
